Breakfast of (Aspiring) Champions

Last night I learned that two hours isn't enough to digest a pizza dinner before running five miles. To make things worse, I also had pizza with sausage and pepperoni for lunch, which I felt every step of the way. To be clear, this is not my typical diet - I had a rare junk out moment at noon and when I got home, my wife surprised me with...more pizza, which she made from scratch. She didn't know I just downed a couple of greasy slices a few hours ago and I didn't want to tell her and risk ruining the moment. Her pizza was topped with corn and hearts of palm, though, and wasn't greasy at all. I call it pizza with a Brazilian twist that's kind of healthy, plus it tasted way better than what I had for lunch.
Anyhow, yesterday's pizza overload aside, my regular diet is generally unplanned and pretty normal: cereal/oatmeal/bagels for breakfast, chicken/vegetables/some type of carbs for lunch, fish/meat/more veggies for dinner and the occasional snacks in-between. My wife and I once tried going super healthy, even using a juicer to drink meals of kale and other green things, but that lasted just a day and a half. I'm also not above gorging on the variety of cookies and desserts she bakes regularly...maybe there is something to my friend's quote about happily married men getting fat (as per my post on July 4). Thinking about nutrition, though, I suppose I'd be a faster runner if I followed a more strict diet. But even if I were an Olympic champion who abstained from baked goods, what fun would life be then? Some things are worth running slower for.
