Can't Beat the Heat

After taking a week off from running, I thought today's four mile run would be easy despite the heat, like stepping on clouds. Such foolishness. The first few minutes were fine, but soon after everything - breathing, legs, my weight - started to feel heavy. I even tried to take it slow, thinking it would make things better. Note: it didn't. My takeaway lesson is that if you run when it's hot and humid, then be exposed for as little as possible, even if you have to run a bit faster. Like taking off a band-aid - be quick and don't prolong the torture. I could see it in the faces of fellow runners coming in the opposite direction. Normally folks give a head nod, a smile, some even wave as we pass each other. Runners' moods today, however, were definitely more muted.

On a happier note, I'll resume lifting weights again to start my next stage of training. Nothing crazy, but enough to hopefully make me a more efficient runner. I wanted to wait until my now three month-old started sleeping through the night. Since adequate sleep is essential to muscle growth, it didn't seem to make sense to lift while I couldn't rest properly. Also, this won't be a massive body transformation - it's been years since I last seriously lifted weights, so at this stage, any improvement is welcome.
