Running When on the Road

I'm bad at running when traveling. During a recent two week vacation, I ran only twice; I packed four pairs of running socks, which I knew was optimistic. But this trip involved a lot of moving parts: four cities, two kids, my wife, my mother-in-law, three other friends and a wedding party - I'm somewhat surprised I even ran at all. With just two months left in my three month extension, though, every week counts. Still dizzy with jet lag, I ran five miles yesterday at a decent pace - still off of my better runs earlier this year, but fast enough to make me feel my running ability didn't completely deteriorate during my trip:

May 20: Five miles outdoors: 1/2 warm up, 7:30, 7:14, 7:15, 8:22, 1/2 cool down

May 16: Three miles outdoors at an easy pace, especially since I stopped at times to take the occasional photo

May 12: Three miles outdoors at an easy pace

April 30: Four miles outdoors at an easy pace - I didn't even bother to bring a watch

The hard part now is getting out of vacation mode and training more seriously. A month from now I aim to run two miles in 12:50 - just under a 20 minute 5K pace - to make sure I'm on track.
